Unlocking benefits for agriculture with FAIR data
Learn how to ask the right questions and apply best practice for improved decisions with data — in seven standalone modules.
How to use this toolkit
The Data Sharing Toolkit contains seven eLearning modules with supporting case studies, checklists, cheat sheets and guides. All the modules help demystify how to use, collect and share Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) and safeguarded data for you, and, for the people in agriculture you wish to empower.
Step 1 Login or sign-up for a free CABI Academy account to get started
Step 2 Start at Module 1 if you are new to data, or simply —
Step 3 Start with whichever module resonates most with your project needs, as you don’t need to do all seven to upskill in FAIR data.
Seven modules with seven guiding questions:
Each question supports best practice for FAIR and safeguarded data in investments in agriculture around the world, in support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grantees and program officers.

About
The Data Sharing Toolkit is a beta website created as part of an investment funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and led by CABI: ‘Enabling data access to support innovation in decision agriculture related to soil health, agronomy and fertilizer’.
This toolkit will be iterated upon so if you wish to take part in our user research please email info@datasharingtoolkit.org
The Data Sharing Toolkit is authored by the Open Data Institute and CABI after working closely with Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation program officers and grantees.
The work aims to enable better data-driven decisions towards innovation in Foundation Decision Agriculture investments and the national systems in which the investments operate.
Please note, the findings and conclusions contained within this toolkit are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect positions or policies of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, CABI or the Open Data Institute.
